The Sunseeker Superhawk 48, introduced in the mid‑1990s, stands as one of the most iconic offshore sports cruisers ever produced by Sunseeker International. Built in 1996 at Poole, England, the Superhawk 48 captured the essence of Sunseeker’s design philosophy during its peak era: sleek styling, exhilarating performance, and unmistakable British craftsmanship. With its long, low profile and aggressive stance, the Superhawk 48 quickly became a favorite among enthusiasts seeking both speed and luxury on open water.
At 14.78 meters in length with a 3.25‑meter beam and a shallow 0.84‑meter draft, the Superhawk 48 was engineered for agility. Her deep‑V hull, molded in GRP fiberglass, delivered exceptional seakeeping and stability at speed. Power came from three Yanmar ME420 diesel engines, each producing 250 hp, giving her the ability to reach 25–30 knots in comfortable conditions. This triple‑engine configuration was a hallmark of the model, offering a blend of raw power and smooth offshore handling that set her apart from other sports cruisers of the era.
The Superhawk 48’s exterior lines reflected the bold styling of 1990s Sunseekers — sharp angles, sweeping curves, and a cockpit designed as both a command center and a social space. The large, open cockpit made her ideal for entertaining, with ample seating and easy access to the water. Below deck, she offered a surprisingly refined interior for a performance cruiser, with a compact yet well‑appointed cabin suitable for weekend getaways.
Over the years, many Superhawk 48s have been meticulously maintained, reflecting the model’s durability and the loyalty of its owners. One 1996 example in Salcombe, Devon, has passed through five owners, receiving full engine and outdrive servicing, new anodes, fresh antifouling, and a complete hull and deck polish in 2025 — a testament to the vessel’s enduring appeal and robust construction.
The Superhawk 48 also found popularity in the charter market. Often coded for 12 passengers plus a skipper, she excelled as a day‑charter vessel, though operators frequently preferred groups of 8–10 guests for optimal comfort. Her combination of speed, stability, and stylish presentation made her a standout choice for coastal excursions, celebrations, and weekend cruising.
Today, the Sunseeker Superhawk 48 remains a rare and sought‑after classic. Listings appear across Europe and in select charter fleets, where her reputation for reliability and performance continues to attract discerning buyers. She represents a defining moment in Sunseeker’s history — a time when the company’s sports cruisers set the standard for offshore luxury, blending power, elegance, and timeless design.
Fast, stylish, and unmistakably Sunseeker, the Superhawk 48 endures as one of the brand’s most beloved performance yachts.
