When the Sunseeker Predator 80 debuted in the early 2000s, it marked a defining moment in Sunseeker’s evolution from high‑performance sportsboats into the realm of true superyacht‑class sports cruisers. Built in Poole, England, and shaped by the legendary naval architect Don Shead, the Predator 80 embodied the company’s long‑standing philosophy: uncompromising speed paired with unmistakable luxury. It quickly became one of the most admired yachts in the 24–30‑meter segment, a flagship of Sunseeker’s Predator range.

Stretching nearly 25 meters in length with a beam of around 6 meters, the Predator 80 carried Shead’s signature deep‑V hull, featuring a 20° aft deadrise for stability and high‑speed seakeeping. Her construction — GRP hull, GRP superstructure, and teak decks — reflected Sunseeker’s commitment to lightweight strength and refined craftsmanship. Beneath her sleek exterior, she housed a formidable propulsion system: triple MAN 1,200‑hp diesels driving Arneson surface drives, producing up to 3,960 PS and pushing the yacht to 44–45 knots. Even at cruising speeds of 35–38 knots, she delivered the kind of performance that placed her among the fastest yachts of her size worldwide.

Inside, the Predator 80 offered a blend of contemporary elegance and purposeful design. Ken Freivokh’s interior styling featured cherrywood cabinetry, narrow passageways optimized for space, and sliding glass doors that opened into a bright deckhouse. A hydraulically operated sunroof transformed the saloon into an open‑air lounge, while below deck, up to four staterooms accommodated six guests, supported by a compact two‑person crew cabin. Practical features — bow and stern thrusters, teak decks, cockpit sun pads, and a transom garage for watercraft — made her as functional as she was luxurious.

Only 21 Predator 80s were ever built, adding to the model’s exclusivity. Delivered beginning in 2000, they quickly gained a reputation for reliability, speed, and striking aesthetics. Owners valued the yacht’s ability to handle both coastal cruising and longer passages, with her deep‑V hull offering stability even in challenging conditions. Her range of 300–450 nautical miles at 30 knots made her ideal for Mediterranean island‑hopping, Caribbean runs, and high‑speed coastal passages.

The Predator 80 also reflected Sunseeker’s broader legacy. Since the company’s founding in 1969 by Robert and John Braithwaite, Sunseeker had grown from small runabouts like the Sovereign 17 into a global leader in luxury motoryachts. Don Shead’s collaboration in the late 1970s shaped many of Sunseeker’s most iconic hulls — from the Offshore 28 to the Predator series — and the Predator 80 stands as one of the finest examples of his performance‑driven design philosophy.

Today, the Sunseeker Predator 80 remains a sought‑after classic. Its combination of speed, style, and craftsmanship continues to attract discerning owners, and its rarity ensures a strong presence on the high‑end brokerage market. Sleek, powerful, and unmistakably Sunseeker, the Predator 80 endures as one of the brand’s most celebrated sports yachts — a vessel that captures the thrill of high‑performance cruising with the comfort of a luxury motoryacht.
